Rhet/Comp and Cog Studies

My friend John posted an interesting comment to his Machina Memorialis blog yesterday, which I think is right on the money. I have been struck many times by the close relationship between Cognitive Science and the Canon of Memory. Unfortunately, the history of cognitive studies in Rhet/Comp is problematic, so we tend to ignore or scoff at some of the really interesting and relevant work being done in that field. As a field we seem to be open to so many other cross-disciplinary “hook-ups” that it really perplexes me why we still shy away so violently from this interesting work.
